E.coli is bacteria found in human digestive tracts and latest science research shown that this bactery can be genetically altered to make fuel.
Scientists from University of California in LA have produced the "version" of E.coli bacteria that can generate alcohol with five carbon atoms per molecule.
This research is published in the December edition of the scientific journal Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences.
Researchers confirm that it is possible also to create alcohol molecules with eight carbon atoms.
E.coli could be modified so that each it's cell can generate long-chain alcohol and it can increase fuel efficiency and as a consequence of that it could siginificantlly decrease the level of global warming, researchers says.
