China launched navigation satellite named Compass Print E-mail

China has successfully launched its second navigation satellite today from Xichang Satellite Launch Center in Sichuan Province.

The Commpass satelite is part of Chinese global satellite navigation system which shuld be completed by 2015.

Satellite was launched by Long March-3C carrier rocket.

An official from the Chinese National Engineering Center of Satellite Navigation told media that the successful launch of the satellite was of great importance as it was the second one of the country's satellite navigation system independent from foreign technology.

China is planing to complete its own global satellite navigation system by 2015. They plan to launch about 30 more satellites before they complete the system.
