Russia has successfully launched Proton-M carrier rocket that carried out to space 3 Russian navigation satellites.
Launch was performed today at the Baikonour space center which is located in Kazahstan.
The carried out satellites are the part of Glonass satellite network which should contain 6 satellites. Russia is planning to launch 3 more satellites as a part of that network by 2010.
Glonass is Global Navigation Satellite System and it represents Russian version of similar system that is owned by U.S. known as GPS which is used for navigational purposes around the world. |
